Tampa Comprehensive Plan Draft: August, 2008

Tampa Comprehensive Plan Draft

The proposed comprehensive plan for the City of Tampa entitled Tampa Comprehensive Plan – Building Our Legacy A Livable City is currently undergoing review by the Florida Department of Community Affairs.

We have reached this point as a result of an action taken by the Tampa City Council on Thursday, July 24, 2008 to transmit the plan to the Florida Department of Community Affairs for official review.  The City of Tampa and the Planning Commission would like to thank the numerous individuals and organizations that have helped us to this point and to remind them to stay connected and informed as we continue on a path to bring this new plan to life.

The Department of Community Affairs is currently within a 60 day period to review the plan.  The State will then send to the City of Tampa an official document containing its “Objections, Recommendations and Comments” of the draft plan.  The City expects this to occur in early October perhaps late September.  The City of Tampa will then have 90 days to respond to the State raised issues, if any are presented.  The goal for this period of time is for the plan to be found in compliance with all necessary State Statutes dealing with Comprehensive Planning and the special considerations that make Tampa a unique city here in Florida.  Once the City believes it has sufficiently answered the State an adoption hearing may be scheduled.  This hearing will most likely take place in early 2009.

This website is simple to use. To the right of this narrative are 3 buttons that will give you access to the draft plan, the ability to provide feedback and to read feedback from other people. To the left is a pull down box where you can access various resources such as the current, adopted plan and the adopted Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR).   The proposed plan is available as a whole or broken down by chapters.  There is also a calendar that lists comprehensive plan related events.

Thank you for taking the opportunity to review and comment.  Your feedback is important in this process.  You are also invited to call us at the Planning Commission (813-272-5940) to talk to us further about the comprehensive plan.  Simply call and ask to speak to anyone in the Tampa Planning Division of the Cities Planning Team.

Sincerely,
